Her-story of Women Through the Decades
For my BFA Senior Thesis Project in 2023, I created an art project entitled Her-story of Women Through the Decades.
Her-story of Women Through the Decades focuses on how the stereotypical woman was portrayed in each decade, starting in the 1920’s and ending in the 2020’s. I have created portraits that show how the stereotypical women looked in each decade and created a magazine to give the audience an insight to the history of women during these decades. After being told throughout my college career that I could not focus on feminist issues within certain projects, I decided to create a project where the idea of feminism cannot be hidden. Combining my photography and writing about historical events, statistics, and portrayals of women, allows me to combine my love for photography and feminist history. These photographs on their own can stand alone as a statement on the portrayal of women, however, my photographs within the magazine I created allows the audience to understand the environment for women during each of these time periods. Her-story of Women Through the Decades pushes the audience to think about how historical events can shape how groups of people are represented and keeps the idea of feminism in the forefront of their minds.
